YOU CAN TEACH AND BECOME A MILLIONAIRE!

In the second part of this series,  Work And Earn, God’s System for Wealth Creation, I explained that God’s system for meeting our needs is work. I went a step further by pointing out that everyone has the capacity to work. But many people seem unable to recognize the abundance of works they can engage in. That’s why this week on MoneyHub, I want to open your eyes to one of the works you can do.

First, let me state that the basis for work is that there is a valid need and you have the capacity to meet it. If you are a Nigerian living in Nigeria there at least three needs you can meet in exchange for money.

For today, I want to talk to you that always says, ‘There is no job for graduates’ or ‘I can’t continue my education because I have no one to help.’ You may be right if you believed that the job you do must be given you by other people. However, if you understand that you can give yourself job, you will realize that is abundance of job you can give yourself.

Instead of waiting for someone to give you a job, give yourself a part time teaching job you only do in the evenings and earn as much as 30k monthly. Extra mural class or private teaching  is one of the easiest, cheapest work you can start on your own with little or no capital.

If you have money to start it big, fine. Rent a big apartment, buy chairs and advertise your center. But if you don’t have money, start with private class. Just walk to people’s house and teach their children. Do a good job and they will retain you and even recommend you to other parents.

It’s no big deal getting a place to teach. Anybody that has children is a target customer. Your neighbours have children, your lecturers have children, your pastors and Imams have children.

As an undergraduate or graduate, there is at least one secondary school subject you can teach very well based on your studies in the university. That makes you an expert on that subject. Go beyond your expertise to study WAEC, NECO, NABTEB and JAMB past questions to know what they are required to know by these exam bodies.

Study their methods of asking questions and in addition to teaching your students your core subject, teach them exam skills and guide them on answering exam question. Once you can teach them to learn their subject thoroughly, guide them on answering exam questions properly and give them study tips, you are a super teacher!

The first parents you convince to tech his child is the last you have to. She will be your evangelist. Your student will evangelize for you wherever he goes.

Depending on your location, you can make as much as 30k monthly teaching for 2hours every evening for 24 days. About three years ago,  I had to work while schooling and I made 8k monthly teaching twice weekly, two hours each and my guys told me I was generous. I know someone who collects more than that today. That was in Nsukka!

Before you tell me that 30k is too small for you as a graduate, know that it’s better than begging 50k from your parents or relations. Working to earn not only earns you the joy of making your money; it gives you the fulfillment that comes from the person you satisfied his need.

Also know that making 30k monthly is not where your life ends, it’s the beginning. If you are not wasteful and spend your money like an investor, you will save enough money to start that your dream business which banks refused loan you start up capital.

In fact, if you start getting many requests to teach many children, you can start your own educational centre and continue expanding it.

When Nnaemeka Eze started Potters House Academy, Nsukka he told said an interview with Brojid World that he taught himself alone on the first day because no one came.  But today, his students have grown beyond 500. Students come from different parts of Eastern Nigeria to Nsukka to live just so that they can attend extra mural classes.

Many big schools we know today started as lesson centers and when they got result, the owners gave them more organized structures. That’s why I know that you can teach people until you become a millionaire that won’t need anybody’s job! But you must first stop complaining and start working!

I’d like you to find out two subjects you can teach comfortably to secondary school students, search for the syllabus online, get past questions on them and refresh your brain to teach even a dummy into A in O’ level exams and 75 in JAMB.

After this, go around looking for parents to teach their children. Let me tell you something: every normal parent want better life for their children and one of the ways of creating that better life is by giving them sound education.

Sell yourself as a partner in creating that better life. Show them why students always find your subject difficult and how you will ensure his child doesn’t fail. Be sure you have developed a solution; so that you won’t be lying. They will give you a chance.

I beg you, put in your best to teach them. It’s not just for the money they will pay you; it’s because you have been given the privilege of molding someone’s future.  The parents may not be around to see how serious you are; whether you do a good job or not and the child may not know that you are giving him your best. But you have to do it knowing that God is watching and is your true Paymaster.

In my work for people, I am guided by this statement: “Slaves, obey your earthly masters with fear, trembling, and sincerity, as when you obey the Messiah. Do not do this only while you’re being watched in order to please them, but be like slaves of the Messiah, who are determined to obey God’s will. Serve willingly, as if you were serving the Lord and not merely people, because you know that everyone will receive a reward from the Lord for whatever good he has done, whether he is a slave or free.”

Ephesians 8:5-8

My point?

Stop lamenting about lack of job! Go and create yours today by teaching someone for a fee. When you teach very well, God will in your one room lesson centre, you prove faithful and God will take you to the next level.
