Handling Gang Up Against You

Handling Gang Up Against You

In life, you can’t escape having people that don’t like you. No matter how good you are to people, there is no guarantee that you will be liked and loved by all. The truth of life is that you will be hated and when there are two or more people that hate you, they may gang up against you.

This is common in a work environment where you may be fast rising and seem unstoppable. Another instance is when you choose to stand for the truth when lots of people around you live the opposite life and your mere presence appears as a threat to their evil ways.

Now, when there is a gang up against people, they panic. I understand the rationale for the panic and it appears reasonable – whenever more powerful people gang up against you, you are finished. Your means of survival is either by succumbing to their ways or acquiring stronger force against them.

However, if you have God on your side, the battle equation naturally tilts in your favour! When God is on your side, the battles of life you will encounter will become walk over because His presence will go ahead of you to weaken your enemies. No amount of individual, corporate or national gang against you, that fear God, will ever prosper because for people like you, God “hide them in the secret place of His presence from those who scheme against them. You keep them in a shelter, safe from quarrelsome tongues.” (Psa. 31:20)

If you are a Christian hear this: oftentimes we think it’s only when we pray to God to come and fight for us that He fights. But that’s not true. He fights for us our unseen battles and that’s one reason we shouldn’t be overly concerned about those that like or don’t like us as long as we pursue peace with all men while maintaining undivided allegiance to God. While Balaam and Balak were trying to spiritually fight the Israelites, they were not aware nor praying against their enemies; they were simply busy while God was defending them.

I dare say when people gang up against you, there is no cause for panic! The reason is that people can gang up against you; but the success of their gang up is not guaranteed. I mean, mosquitoes can gather around your house and gang up against you; but their gang up alone is not a guarantee of their success. With your treated mosquito net on your window, they shall gather against you, make all the noise they can but can’t do you jack! You will live your normal lifewhile they wish they can penetrate your protection.

To the one that believes in God and have God as His shield, there is absolutely nothing that your enemies and those ganging up against you can successfully do! They are not different from the frustrated and failed mosquito. At best they can waste their time and energies plotting a strategy that failed before launch. They may be masters at plotting against your down fall but their plans, strategy and people cannot succeed.

You know why?

The Lord undoes the designs of the nations; he makes the thoughts of the peoples without effect. (Psa. 33:10 BBE)

No gang up against you, a child of God, ever succeeds! When it appears as though they succeed, you can be sure it’s God moving you to the next phase of your life. Mrs Potiphar didn’t succeed against Joseph; she only pushed Joseph to his place of influence and excellence. Daniel’s colleagues that ganged up against him didn’t succeed against him; they only succeeded in advancing the kingdom of God.

Someone once told me that if I have a man or woman from a certain tribe as my boss you should resign or they will take me out diabolically because they consider me a threat. I laughed because I know that the last thing I, Joseph Ifeanyichukwu Dinwoke, will do is to run from the place God wants me to be because of what mere human being can think of doing. They never born the devil, let alone the human being that can scare me away from where God has positioned me!

In fact, this truth played out in our clime, when a gang up against Olusegun Mojeed, forced him out ofhis N4Million per annum job. Little did he know that theypushed him to greater material and experiential wealth.

In an interview, he recounted that he started working with Wema Bank in 2001. “That was a turning point in my life. I was there for three years or so, until Tunde Lemo left for Central Bank. And then the ‘natives’ came after me. They made me to start looking for another job. I was on N4 million per year, so I wasn’t looking for job.

“But when they started persecuting me, I started looking for job and I got the Vmobile job on 12 million per annum. The Vmobile era which lasted about 30 months were my best of HR life. I worked with South African bosses who were fantastic people. They came with knowledge and downloaded to us. They didn’t spare anything in training us; I went abroad to the US for the first time for training. That was one thing I couldn’t do in Nigerian-owned companies. I got certified in almost all that there were to get certified in.”

I have had numerous experiences where this truth of God is demonstrated in my life but I only share them in my memoir to be published in 80 years time. But the life of Mr Olusegun suffices to help us see that those gangs up are not threat to the one who believes in God. God fights your enemies to a stand standstill or allow them succeed only to fulfill His will in your life.

When people gang up against you, don’t forget the teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ to love those that persecute you. You are to pray for them; not against them. You are to forgive them and give them food when they need it. God handles them as He chooses to; but as for succeeding in evil plots against you; that’s not possible!

“You have knowledge that it was said, Have love for your neighbour, and hate for him who is against you: But I say to you, Have love for those who are against you, and make prayer for those who are cruel to you; So that you may be the sons of your Father in heaven; for his sun gives light to the evil and to the good, and he sends rain on the upright man and on the sinner.” (Matt 5: 43-45 BBE)

My point?

You can’t escape gang up, no matter how good you are. In fact, many times, gang up against you will be motivated by your shinning light. But it’s no cause for worry because if God be for you, no amount of people, institution or nations can succeed against you. Go about your work and life normally while God handles their matter as He deems pleasing in His sight per time.
